Mart Cafe – Tram route 96 Stop 130 Middle Park

One of my favourite places to breakfast in Melbourne is the Mart Cafe at Middle Park – Middle Park tram stop for tram 96 to St Kilda.
This cafe is right on the tram stop – platform 2.  Notice the name – tram backwards.

In the summer I wander in early and make my way out onto [...]

A touch of France on Park Street, South Melbourne

The head office of a company I worked for was in Park Street, South Melbourne, across the road from Chimmys.

Chimmys was the place to grab a coffee before racing to a meeting or a training course.  The Head Office moved and I forgot about Chimmys until recently when I was in Park Street and wanted [...]

Russell House, the oldest residence in Melbourne’s CBD

There are some fascinating places in Melbourne.  Russell House  or The Old Corner  Shop, as it is often called, is one of them.  Places like this are what make Melbourne such an exciting city to explore.

As you are wandering up Kings Street or along La Trobe Street at the edge of the CBD you suddenly [...]

Booktalk Cafe, Richmond– a different style of food-and-coffee-break

At the Booktalk Cafe, 91 Swan Street, Richmond food, coffee and books seem to be of equal importance.  The cafe is central to the ambiance of the shop.  The tables and chairs are in the middle of the space and then they wander between the book cases to the back of the room.  This is [...]

Scones cup cakes and lunch, Sandringham Village – by the beach

Cuppa Cottage?   What a name I thought.  Who would think that up?  Would someone really expect people to be drawn to a cafe with that name?

I have a friend who can’t get the words the right way round and calls it Cottage Cuppa.  Either way it is a silly name.
I guess naming something is difficult.  [...]

Window shopping in Greville Street, Prahran

Greville Street, Prahran  is a favourite street of mine.   My first encounter was a few years ago when I walked from the Prahran Railway Station along Greville Street on my way to Chapel Street
The late afternoon sun gave an orange glow and a touch of magic to this unique street. I feel in love.
I fell [...]

Browsing High Street, Armadale & eating at Crust

A chilly but sunny winter’s day on High Street Armadale.
Exploring an area of Melbourne is one of the joys of living in this city where no area is the same as its neighbour.  By exploring I mean wandering, drifting into shops and browsing through the merchandise.  It is not so much about  shopping as absorbing [...]

The Good Life, and Good Food at Albert Park Lake

The Carousel, is an events center with a café attached.  It is on the edge of The Lake in Albert Park – such a great position.  It’s a stunning experience to sit on the deck outside the cafe,  sip coffee, while swans and ducks float by, joggers pant past and walkers chat as they amble [...]

Cafe Racer, St Kilda Beach

Weekend biking around the Eastern Bays  is a Melbourne tradition.  On Saturday and Sunday mornings hordes of bikers, in the very best lycra and helmets,  form packs and peddle furiously along Beach Road to Marine Parade in St Kilda and then on to Port Melbourne.

Those of us who drive have to keep a keen eye [...]
