Fun, food, fashion, music and crafts – it is all at the South Melbourne Night Market.
The market is held in the South Melbourne Market building every Thursday night until the 5th of March.
It is lively and most of it is under cover so regardless of the weather you can enjoy it.
Music is a big part of the festive vibe. When I was there last Thursday three bands were playing in different spots so wherever you were there was music. They were far enough away from each other to be heard separately.
Food stalls and food trucks are around the perimeter while the huge variety of stalls are under the verandas and some are inside.
There are crowds and queues for some of the food. I saw a wonderful Spanish Pilaf, freshly made pancakes and cheese melted in a cute little gadget rather like a child’s frying pan and served over potatoes with salad on the side. It is a French idea. Delicious.
For tea lovers this is a good place to be. Those Girls have a stall selling their iced tea. A wonderfully refreshing drink on a hot night. This is not your ordinary every day tea. How about Strawberry and Rosemary or Lime and Mint? Very refreshing. They also have homemade lemonade. This made me go home and dig out my grandmother’s old lemonade recipe. Homemade lemonade is special. I will share my grandmother’s recipe if anyone is interested.
There is Vietnamese Hawker food on Coventry Street near the Korea truck with potato swirls on a stick. I have seen these before and they are fun especially for kids.
After you have eaten explore the rest of the market.
There a lot of families with kids sitting around eating and listening to the music. With the long, light summer evenings it is a good place to be on Thursday night.
The market runs from Thursday February 5th to Thursday March 5th.
Time: 5.30 to 9.30pm
Getting There:

What a great article for all the Melbourne foodies out there! How did your homemade lemonade turn out? xox

Thanks for stopping by. It was a great market this year. I went a couple of times. I hope it was successful for you.
The lemonade. It was my grandmother’s recipe and I thought it was rather sweet. I wondered if she used very sour lemons. I don’t remember the lemonade being sweet – refreshing is my memory of the drink. I may try again and use less sugar.
