The Local, Bay Street, Port Melbourne – good value

The Local in Bay Street Port Melbourne has become a fairly regular haunt, especially for a quick meal after work. I wrote about my first visit here. It has such a nice ‘pubby’ atmosphere – a sort of reminder of what pubs used to be.

There is nothing of the Gastro Pub here – you order at the bar while you stand on carpet that is traditional pub carpet then crowd into a worn leather booth to wait for the food.

When we first ate there it was quiet.  Even when there was a particular sporting match on the numerous flat screens it wasn’t crowded.

They must be doing something right because the patrons have increased and it can be hard to find a table.

What adds to its the charm for us are the vouchers we download and the quality of the happy hour house wines – $6.00 a glass.

Don’t dismiss the idea of  the voucher with the thought that it can’t be good if they have to use vouchers to get people in.  It is good and I just hope they keep using the vouchers so we can indulge in such excellent pub fare at these prices.

My only gripe is that they insist on putting the meat or fish on what would otherwise be crisp chips.
