The Local Pub is a sports pub and on the evening we were there they had the Rugby world cup on every screen. There are a lot of screens. This is a plus if you are there to watch sport. We had a smallish screen on the wall beside our table. The Rugby Game [...]

One of my favourite breads in Melbourne is Noisette’s Sourdough Fruit Bread and my favourite Melbourne place to buy it is at the Pickadeli in the South Melbourne Market.
In fact now I think about I only buy it at the Market. I still pop into Noisette’s on Bay Street, Port Melbourne for coffee and cake [...]

I need to give you an up-date on my post about the Wayside Inn Hotel on the corner of Ferrars Street and City Road, South Melbourne.
I wrote of the good meal we had and that we would be back for more of the same.
Friends turned up to the Wayside Inn Hotel for dinner last week [...]

The Wayside Inn is a stylish Gastro pub in South Melbourne. When I travel around South Melbourne and Port Melbourne I’m staggered at how many old hotels/pubs have been moved into the modern age with a makeover. It is also astonishing, if you keep your eyes open, just how many you see that haven’t had [...]

This stunning piece of urban art is a work by Frank Malerba.
You can see it yourself as you head along Cecil Street away from the South Melbourne Market.
It is wonderful to be able to see such eye catching pieces of art during an every-day shopping excursion or a walk around the local streets. Frank Malerba [...]

I had not intended to go to the Cricket Club Hotel in fact I have never thought of going to the Cricket Club Hotel. It is one of those Melbourne places that have never entered my consciousness.
As a by-product of local advertising I found myself there on a cold winter night because a friend reads [...]

Sunday. The sun is shining and the part of the world that is South Melbourne is buzzing. A good place to take in all this buzz is at an outside table at the Red Star Cafe. On a cold day a window table inside would do just as well.
This cafe is right opposite the main [...]

I have been overseas for a couple of weeks and while I was away I remembered how I fell in love with Melbourne.
My first love was “Little Italy”on Lygon Street – that small strip of Lygon Street between Gratton Street and Argyle Place North that runs alongside Argyle Square .
Italian restaurant Lygon Street lunch time [...]

The head office of a company I worked for was in Park Street, South Melbourne, across the road from Chimmys.
Chimmys was the place to grab a coffee before racing to a meeting or a training course. The Head Office moved and I forgot about Chimmys until recently when I was in Park Street and wanted [...]

Gas Eateries and Supply Cafe in South Melbourne is a place to hang out. Not necessarily to be seen or to see who is there rather because it’s that sort of a place.
It’s where to go to eat or sip a coffee and read the paper. There are singles, couples, friends and groups doing that [...]
